Before we get into the product test, I want to talk about life: isn’t it nuts. For me the answer is: yes.
If you are caught up in a busy, nutty whirlwind right now, then you certainly don’t have time to don a pair of rubber gloves and wrestle with taking a core out of a jalapeño. And you most certainly do not have time to flush your eye with cool water if you happen to rub it with your jalapeño juice coated finger!
The jalapeño corer is a great tool to help avoid this hazard. It is shaped just right and has just enough serrated edges in just the right places.
Last night I was making a Tex-Mex recipe where you quick pickled jalapeño peppers :
Core and slice a jalapeño, put it in a small sauce pan with 2 tsp sugar, 1/2 cup of apple cider, 1 cup of water and a large pinch of salt. Bring it to a boil, take it off the heat and put it in a heat-proof glass bowl (liquid and all) to cool a bit.
I had my doubts, but they were delicious and, in hindsight, I wish I had made more.
